What the season actually looks like
Wasp season is front-loaded and intense. From late June the call volume climbs, August and September are relentless, and by November the nests are dead and the work shifts to the rest of the pest calendar. That shape is worth understanding before you apply: the summer is long days and real earnings, and the winter is steadier.
It also means the overtime is genuine rather than theoretical. On-target earnings of GBP 40,000 and above are achievable on top of the base salary, and that figure is base plus overtime and commission, not the basic rate.
We cross-train across every role the group recruits for, so a technician who starts on stinging insects is not stuck there. Bird control, heat treatment and proofing work are all open once you are qualified.

Trainee Pest Control Technician
No experience needed. You learn the trade on live jobs, alongside someone who has done a few thousand of them.
Base salary: GBP 26,000 to GBP 32,000 a year. Base pay only. On-target earnings are separate and explained below.
You start out with a qualified technician and work towards the RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 Award in Pest Management while you earn. Full training is provided and you do not pay for it.
The first thing you will learn is identification, because it decides everything else. A wasp nest is destroyed, a honeybee colony is relocated, and a bumblebee nest in a compost heap is usually left alone. Getting that wrong is the difference between a job well done and a bee colony killed for nothing, so we teach it before we teach treatment.
You will spend the season working at height, in confined roof spaces and in other people’s gardens, often with an anxious customer watching. Being calm and straightforward with people matters here as much as the technical side.
Hours are 40 to 45 a week depending on the shift pattern. You work from home with a company van, so there is no depot to commute to first.
A full UK driving licence is essential. Please do not apply without one. Two years of driving experience is preferred.

Experienced Pest Control Technician
For qualified technicians who already hold RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 or equivalent and want the harder jobs rather than a bigger round.
Base salary: GBP 30,000 to GBP 38,000 a year. Base pay only. On-target earnings are separate and explained below.
You will already know the routine wasp work. What we are interested in is the rest of it: the nest in a cavity wall that has been treated twice by someone else and come back, the hornet colony in a listed building where the access is the whole problem, and the customer who has had four contractors out and no longer believes anyone.
Relevant experience and a current qualification are expected for this role. If your ticket has lapsed we can put that right.
There is real progression here into complex commercial work and specialist treatments, and we would rather promote a technician who knows the field than recruit a manager who does not.

Common questions
Do I need pest control experience to apply?
Not for the trainee role. You start alongside a qualified technician and work towards the RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 Award in Pest Management while you are paid. The experienced technician role does expect a current qualification and hands-on treatment experience.
Is wasp work seasonal, and what happens in winter?
The wasp season runs from roughly late June to October and it is the busiest part of the year. These are permanent full-time roles rather than seasonal ones: outside the season you work across the rest of the pest calendar, and we cross-train across every role the group recruits for.
Am I allergic-safe doing this job?
Stings are part of the work and full protective equipment is provided and required. If you have a diagnosed severe allergy to wasp or bee venom, tell us at application stage rather than after. It does not automatically rule you out of the group, but it does change which roles are sensible.
What is the 40,000 figure I have seen quoted?
That is on-target earnings, which is base salary plus overtime and commission. The salary band shown against each role is the base pay on its own. We would rather be plain about that than have anyone read a total-earnings figure as a basic rate.
